There’s a definite heritage feel to autumn this year. Barn jackets, checks, corduroy, waxed cotton and practical layers are everywhere — which all feels rather familiar to us at O&C.
Some things come around as trends, but others have simply never gone away.
Barbour, of course
It would be impossible to talk about heritage style at O&C without starting with Barbour.
We’ve stocked Barbour for many years and it remains one of our most popular brands. This autumn it feels particularly relevant, with the current appetite for practical jackets, traditional fabrics and countryside-inspired styling bringing many of the things Barbour does best firmly back into focus.
For us, though, it’s never really been about a trend.
A good Barbour jacket works because it’s useful. It can be thrown over almost anything, it copes admirably with the British weather and, rather than looking worse after plenty of wear, it gets better.
Perhaps that explains why we’ve already sold so many Barbour jackets this season.
The Barn Jacket
The barn jacket continues to have a moment this autumn.
Simple, practical and easy to layer, it’s one of those pieces that manages to look current without feeling like something you’ll regret buying when the trend moves on.
As well as Barbour, we have a similar style from Noella at O&C and at Fleur there’s a green version from Nobody’s Child which has a lovely addition of tartan collar and cuffs. And there's a gorgeous checked wax from Gant this season with dark navy cord collar and cuffs.
Wear one with denim and loafers, over knitwear when it gets cooler, or simply throw it on over whatever you’re already wearing.
Checks, Texture & Autumn Colour
Heritage style doesn’t have to mean dressing head-to-toe for the countryside.
Often it’s the smaller details that work best: a checked shirt, a textured knit, corduroy, a traditional pattern or simply the rich greens, browns and earthy shades that always seem to look right at this time of year.
Mixing those pieces with something cleaner and more contemporary keeps the whole thing feeling relaxed rather than overly traditional.
Made To Be Worn
Perhaps what we like most about this kind of clothing is that it’s meant to be used.
A jacket that gets better with age, a pair of boots that develops character or a favourite knit that comes out every autumn — these are the pieces that tend to earn their place in your wardrobe.
And while fashion will inevitably move on to something else, we suspect we’ll still be reaching for them long after autumn ’26.
Come and have a look at the latest collections at O&C and Fleur in Aldeburgh, or browse them online. And if you need help finding the right jacket, fit or size, just ask — that’s what we’re here for.
