Women’s Capes and Ponchos

Capes and Ponchos are one of the key women’s trends for Autumn/Winter 2016 and here at O&C we have one to suit every occasion and budget.  And yes of course we’ve had the discussion about when is a cape a cape and not a poncho (don’t even mention cloaks!). Some say that a poncho is cut from a rectangular piece of wool whilst a cape is cut from a circle.  But did we care what shape it was when Clint Eastwood wore his poncho? No, we did not.  So, the brands have labelled them as they see fit and it’s your job to choose one to suit you.

Here are two examples that do straddle the line between Poncho, Cape and Wrap; the Avoca Herringbone Cape (available in navy and lime) and the jacquard Olsen Patterned Poncho both of which add something distinctive to your wardrobe.

At the start of the season we look for transitional pieces such as the Olsen Asymmetric Poncho which is the perfect lightweight outer layer yet will still keep you warm. Meanwhile the GANT Cable Poncho is made from a Cashmere Blend which gives it a luxurious finish and makes it a slightly warmer option, perfect for Autumn Evenings.

As we move closer to winter a heavyweight cape is the order of the day and the alpaca-blend Icefield & Nebit Capes both by Barbour fit the bill. For the festive season how about a statement piece for your wardrobe such as the Avoca Berry Cape – it really has some gravitas and will definitely get you noticed. We mustn’t forget the Rolls-Royce of capes – the Dubarry Samphire made from 100% New Wool Tweed it features a faux fur trim and toggle buttons and really is a thing of beauty.
