Menswear Picks – September 2016
O&C MD James is our Menswear Buyer so we asked him to talk us through some of the AW16 trends.
Men are often steered by the weather, how terribly British of them. The last few years haven’t been especially cold and when this is the case customers buy what they want rather than what they need. This may sound obvious but it’s nice to see customers buying a coat because they just really love it. But men also want the classics, they don’t need a drastic change in their wardrobe, so whilst trends are apparent it’s often only a gentle step on from last year.
A good example of a jacket to fall in love with is the Hackett Cadwell Waxed Jacket – a stylish coat featuring zip-up pockets and a very distinctive tweed inner jacket that can be done up separately from the outer jacket and provides an extra style angle.
On the practical and classic side of coats, James picked out some timeless Barbour Jackets. These were the Winter Utility Wax Jacket, Ashby Coat and Duke Waxed Jacket. All of them are made from high quality waxed cotton and feature a host of useful design features.
James sees knitwear continuing to move away from a single colour wool and towards a subtle multi-colour in the weave. You can see this in both the GANT Donegal Tweed Crewneck Jumper and the Barbour Tisbury Crew Neck Jumper both of which feature a tonal melange that introduces flecks of colour into the finish and provides a very distinctive and distinguished finish to them.
AW16 also sees a continuation of the trend for very chunky knits typified by the GANT Cable Cardigan alongside the trend for boldly patterned knitwear as seen in the GANT Fair Isle Cable Crewneck Jumper.
We better let James get back to unpacking all these lovely new clothes…
